triangular bronze dish
We have sold some spectacular Ando pieces and just have this little dish left.
During the late Edo period, Andō Jubei (Jusaburo) (1876-1953) together with his brother-in-law made the cloisonné company a success. In 1893, Andō Juzaemon went to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, then in 1901 Andō Jubei went to the Glasgow International Exhibition. Cloisonné experienced strong growth around the time of the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900. As of 1918, at least fifty cloisonné artists worked there. The company was given an Imperial Warrant of Appointment to the Japanese court. Ando cloisonné was also presented as state gifts.

Fine Document box - Kogo
The Mon on the interior is the Honda Family Crest indicating this box was made for them. It is in very nice condition. The family name dates back to the Heian period and indicates their base or foundation was a rice field. The aristocratic family was instrumental in that early period. One daimyo family of Mikawa (now part of Aichi prefecture) is descended from the Fujiwara. Another family was samurai from Satsuma (now Kagoshima prefecture).

Netsuke - Rice sack seal
Fruits, vines, & chrysanthemums in antler - a rare trader’s netsuke that would have attached to an ink case inro. The seal is not the artist name, but rather the owner of the bags of rice." This was offered, on consignment from me by Felice Fedder, Madison Ave, NYC the 1970s for over $1000. Over the years we have sold probably 100 fine netsuke.
