Ovrille Carroll

    Louisville KT born Carroll was commissioned to do wpa murals in Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky. He was a member of Art Students League NY and staff illustrator of the Louisville Courier Journal.  While a student at the Louisville Art Center, during the early days of the Depression, Orville Carroll was recognized as a gifted talent by Adele Brandeis, who directed the WPA project Index of American Design. His work is Illustrated the 1946 Louisville: The Gateway City. The Louisville Encyclopedia reports "his work regularly sold out in hours." His teachers included John Sloan, John Stuart Curry and Isabel Bishop. He is listed in most major reference books.
