From Rug & Political Sign Series / Pregnant Saints
Young has been the subject of numerous retrospectives, several books, and his work is held by numerous museums. His work will be a core holding of the new museum of African-American History on the Mall in Washington, D.C. Limited in the resources available to him at the time he began painting, Young used whatever materials he could find on the street--scrap lumber, parts of packing crats, and cast-off doors.
These were purchased from the owner who had a relationship with Purvis Young and bought 110 of his works before he died.
