Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Marian Steele became a landscape and marine painter who received more than 100 awards for the quality of her paintings. She studied at the
Trenton School of Industrial Arts and then at (PAFA) the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with Daniel Garber. From the Academy, she received the Cresson Traveling Scholarship to Europe.
Most of Steele's career was spent as a resident of Cambridge and Rockport, MA; however, she made many trips to southern California to paint and exhibit. Steele was a member of many art associations including the Guild of Boston Artists, the California Art Association, the Rockport Art Association, the Cambridge Art Association, and the American Association of Professional Artists, among others.
Steele exhibited extensively throughout her career including PAFA (several prizes), the
Los Angeles Museum of Art, AAPL, the Rockport AA, the Newark Museum, NJ, and Harvard University, to name a few.
Sachem's Head Yacht Club is a private yacht club located on Long Island Sound in Guilford, CT near the Thimble Islands. It serves an active racing fleet. It was founded in 1896.
