Mervin Jules


Jules attended Baltimore City College where he graduated in 1930. He went on to attend the Maryland Institute of Fine and Applied Arts before enrolling at the Arts Student League in New York City, where he studied under Thomas Hart Benton. At the age of twenty-five Jules had his first one man show in New York City. He works have been widely exhibited at such institutions as the BMA, MoMa, VMFA, the Corcoran Biennial, and at the San Fransico World's Fair.

He also taught for a number of years at the Fieldston School, MoMa, City College of New York, the University of Wisconsin, and Smith College. He works are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMa), the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The rare oil and print pair of a musician are in excellent condition and show the artist's mastery of both the oil and print mediums. We are selling these at our 1994 cost.
