Fine Plate with birds - classic early design

Nabeshima Inaeman (probably X or XI)

Meiji-Taisho - 6" diameter  5 sun

The design is based historically on a famous design from the 17th century made for the Nabeshima clan who controlled probably the best kiln in Imari, actually at Okawachiyama. It was rendered by one of the most famous family of artists in Japan. The protection of the unique production techniques is protected by the Japanese government and designated "an Important Intangible Cultural Property"

Lesser quality examples (some unsigned) have been offered at the Arts of Asia show for $3000 - $5000. I purchased this shallow bowl well over a decade from a fine collection of Japanese ceramics.
