This major piece by a major artist has unfortunately lost its top and so is priced at a fraction of its real value. Compare it to the cover illustration to the landmark American Ceramics, the Collection of the Everson Museum. porcelain 11" high He is a professor of art and head of the ceramics program at University of California, Los Angeles, where he has taught since 1973. His work has been described as "sculpture whose subject was pottery" by the French government, which awarded him a fellowship and residency at the Manufacture national de Sevres in Paris, famed for its porcelains since the 1750s. Saxe was commissioned by the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, to create a piece in response to the museum's permanent collection for their first exhibition of contemporary art (spring, 2000). His installation featured seven large porcelain and stoneware sculptures presented on the Getty's 18th century French Rococo gilded furnishings.
