    Clivia Calder Morrison studied with Samuel Cashwan at the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts and with William Zorach in New York at the Art Students League, where she lived for a time. She taught sculpture and was ceramic supervisor for the WPA in Michigan and received numerous commissions, including Sea Nymph (1938) at the Michigan Womens League in Ann Arbor, Children Reading (1938) at MSU and several WPA commisions at theWater Works Building in Lansing Michigan.

  

   She took the sculpture prize at the 1937 Michigan Art Society Exhibit and exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Kresge Art Museum She was a supervisor for the WPA, for the Michigan Art Project, taught sculpture and ceramics at Detroit Society Art Council, and elsewhere. She is listed on ArtPrice and in Who Was Who in American Art. She exhibited her thrown and slab pieces in the Ceramic Nationals from 1935-1946.

 

    Calder is looking forward to her 100th birthday in May 2009.
