Toucans emerging from a giant egg

Sergio Bustamonte

Mexican b. 1942
porcelain - 23-25" diameter

A really large, special and colorful piece by one of Mexico's best known and most often imitated artists, in perfect condition. It's priced well below gallery price and it's here, not in Mexico!

Studied architecture at the University of Guadalajara, sold his artwork while in school, beginning in 1960. After graduating, he worked with local ceramicists, eventually opened his own studio and sold work to Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, and Horrods. In 1972 he moved to Amsterdam where he "learned more about painting and design."

In 1975, he established his Family Workshop Studio in Tiaquepaque. His monumental sculpture is in a number of cities, notably his "In Search of Reason" in Puerto Vallarta, sculpture in the Guadalajara Zoo, Puetro Vallarta, and Tiaquepaque.
