Sidney Gross

1921-1969
Oil on canvas
24x36
ca 1945-46

While still at Art Students League, Sidney Gross had developed a technique of watercolor that he likened to William Blake. The subject matter, however, was surrealistic, organically convoluted city and industrial scenes. After the war, he refined that vision into a series of paintings like this. His most famous work in this group was "El to Erewhon".
