Tall Early Salt Glaze Pot

Karen Karnes

Born 1925

24.25" high - 1950s

This rare large almost sculptural piece appears to be a fairly early piece, possibly from the 1970s, with a fine salt glaze.

Karen Karnes is one of the foremost ceramic artists living in the United States today who studied at Black Mountain and Alfred, and with Bernard Leach and Soji Hamada. The avant-garde artists, Robert Rauschenberg, Peter Voulkos, and John Cage were among the many creative minds at Black Mountain College during this period. She moved to Long Island in 1954. For twenty-five years, she focused on functional pottery. She also taught at LIU-Southampton.
